Wellington Turman defeated Markus Perez via unanimous decision (30-27 x3) at UFC Sao Paulo on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019, live from the Ginasio do Ibirapuera in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

This win marked Turman’s first in the UFC.

“I have one thing to say: The Joker always loses,” “I’m very proud of this win. On to the next one.”

Here’s how the fight played out:

Round 1

The two touch up at the center. Perez misses a round kick. Turman fired off a combination. Perez came forward and threw a leg kick. Turman pressured Perez and pushed him back to the cage wall. Some exchanging against the cage wall in a clinch, and Perez reversed the position. Perez landed a nice elbow, but Turman took it well and briefly got Perez down on the mat with a slam. Perez got up, but Turman took his back. Perez avoided another takedown attempt from Turman and broke free from his grasp. It turned into another clinch against the fence. Perez landed a spinning back fist, but Turman again ate it well and fired off a couple of his own shots. Perez missed a spinning kick. One-two from Turman. Perez with anther flashy kick. Round kick by Perez. Turman missed both a big head kick and a follow-up punch. One-two from Turman, coming forward, along with a knee. Round kick by Perez, left hand by Turman. One-two from Perez. Left hand by Turman. Front kick by Turman. Low kick by Turman. Turman with a hard punch. Perez spins in and lands nothing. Sidekick by Turman, who comes forward with a right as well. The two exchange until the horn.

Right hand by Perez and a low kick from Turman. Perez missed another spinning attack. Kick from Perez. Right hand by Turman. Big right kick from Turman, but not much lands. They each land a cross inside. Flying knee from Turman, but doesn’t get all of it. Right hand by Turman. Another right. Front kick from Turman and they exchange. Perez with another spinning attack. Turman came back forward with pressure. Another clinch and Turman takes Perez down with a trip in the clinch. Perez got back to his feet and landed a big right elbow, but Turman still has his back. Turman landed a couple of knees to Perez’s leg. Perez struggling to break the grip of Turman. Perez gets it back to a normal clinch and the two eventually break off. Perez missed an uppercut. One-two from Turman. Another clinch against the cage wall briefly. Turman with a right. Perez fires a countershot. Turman fires off a combination, and he pressures Perez, backing him up with a flurry. Perez is busted open around his right eye. Another clinch against the cage, with Turman attempting to get another takedown. Turman with a right hand upon separating. Kick from Perez. Turman had a standing guillotine attempt and landed a knee before the horn.

Round 3

Front kick by Turman. Strong one-two from Turman. Another one-two from Turman. Right hand from Turman. A couple of low kicks from Perez. Turman gets Perez in a clinch once again, with the two jockeying for position. Turman gets Perez’s back yet again and briefly gets taken down again. Knee by Turman. Another takedown from Turman. Right hand by Turman, and he has Perez’s back locked up. Turman transitions into full mount, but Perez reverses into an ankle lock attempt. Turman shakes it off and gets into Perez’s guard. Turman transitions into side control and lands a strong elbow. A couple of strong strikes by Turman. Perez trying to transition out, but Turman is staying on top of him and overwhelming him. Perez gets back to his feet with 60 seconds left. Perez with an elbow in the clinch. Turman grabs a leg and attempts a takedown, but gets tagged with an elbow. A couple of strong hooks inside by Perez. Kick and a knee from Perez. Perez is drained but is throwing all he’s got until the final horn. Great exchange to end the fight.

Perez, the former LFA middleweight champion, entered tonight 2-2 in the UFC since signing with the promotion in late 2017. Before tonight, he had most recently competed at UFC Fortaleza in February, submitting Anthony Hernandez.

Turman had won 15 of 17 when he made his UFC debut in July at UFC Sacramento, dropping a split decision to Karl Roberson.
